The Sun in H-alpha on May 22, 2022 featuring giant AR3014 and some nice filaments. This is a single shot full disk image taken using an ASI178MM and the LS50DS with no barlow (requires threading the 178MM directly to the diagonal w/o the nosepiece to acheive focus). I picked up the ASI178MM mono planetary camera to obtain full disk solar images at a similar pixel scale to my typical images using the 290MM without having to shoot multiple subs and generate panoramas as well as in preparation for the solar eclipse in a few years. The results so far are ok with the main challenge being getting good tuning across the full field of the image (as seen in the bottom half of this image).

Imaged with a Lunt LS50Tha (with feathertouch focuser and ZWO EAF), Lunt LS50C compact double stack filter, 2.5x Televue Powermate, ZWO ASI290MM. Imaging train was configured to give ~F/18. Image capture using Firecapture. Stacking in AutoStakkert3 (best 25% of 1000 frames). Panorama generated from 5 sub images using Microsoft ICE. Processed in ImPPG (sharpening). Prom image generated from surface image using curves adjustment in ImPPG. Combined surface and prom images using GIMP.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
